BSP Regional Energy Exchange establishment
In the newly established company BSP (Borzen SouthPool) Regional Energy Exchange, with headquarters in Ljubljana (Slovenia), Borzen will hold a stake of 51 percent and Eurex (international derivates exchange) of 49 percent.
In the first half of the year the exchange will operate exclusively in the Slovenian market and restore all business and technological functions needed for successful operation. It is expected that untill the end of 2008 the exchange will offer its services based on a new technology also in other areas of South East Europe. In the beginning the exchange will offer spot electricity products, to be supplemented later by derivatives and other energy products.
According to the Managing Director of BSP, Damjan Stanek, M. Sc., the main drivers behind the establishment of a power exchange with a regional focus are, above all, better utilization of cross-border connections, higher trading liquidity and also better regional economic efficiency of energy systems, that reflects particularly in lower power production costs.
