Ceremonial signature of Adex 2
The Hungarian Energy Exchange HUPX joined the Adex Group to strengthen and expand the operation of the regional electricity exchange in Central Eastern and Southeastern Europe (CEE-SEE). Adex Group has thus become the most liquid spot trading center for electricity in the area.
This shift promotes the energy transition and the consolidation of fragmented local markets and serves as an accelerator for the introduction of the future single European market in the region. For market participants, this means unified access to a single trading and clearing system in Slovenia, Serbia and Hungary. Fully optimized processes will provide current and future members with simplified access to the exchange's services. The energy exchanges within the Adex Group, headquartered in Budapest, will combine the expertise of several branches together with harmonized exchange rules, a single trading system and a single clearing system.
Adex Group owns BSP, HUPX and SEEPEX. MAVIR, ELES, EMS and EPEX SPOT are co-owners of the Adex Group. The group was founded with the aim of including current and future partners from the region.
BSP, HUPX and SEEPEX remain the designated electricity market operators and will retain their IOTEE licenses in the future.
Subject to approval by the relevant authorities, we expect the expanded Adex Group to be operational in the second half of 2024.
Adex Skupina d.o.o., the first Regional Energy Exchange for Central and Southeastern Europe, was officially established on December 23, 2022 in Ljubljana with founding members ELES, EMS and EPEX SPOT and two wholly owned subsidiaries (BSP and SEEPEX). More than 60 members trade electricity on the BSP and SEEPEX spot markets. The volume of trading on the markets of the Adex Group for 2023 amounted to 16.3 TWh. The headquarters of the Adex Group will move to Budapest in the second half of 2024, when HUPX will become its third wholly-owned subsidiary. For more information, please visit www.adex-spot.com.
