Meet our Team

BSP is actively involved in pan-European market coupling projects and has representatives in the market coupling working groups and task forces.

Our employees' extensive expertise plays an important role in driving the ongoing development of the European energy market. Moreover, they actively share their knowledge with other stakeholders, thereby fostering collaborative growth and innovation within the industry.

Matej Godec

My journey with BSP began in 2010. Since then, I have played a role in all of the company's most significant milestones. This includes the launch of the Day-Ahead auction and Intraday Continuous trading on the Slovenian market. I contributed to BSP's early involvement in the development of Market Coupling, taking part in all the implementation phases of the project.

As Head of Operations, I was responsible for overseeing the seamless implementation of new systems into our existing infrastructure. I actively participated in task forces that allowed us to contribute to the day-ahead and intraday electricity markets that we know today.

Some of my more significant roles included being the convenor for testing in IBWT and CORE FB projects and being the chair of operational task forces on the day-ahead level. In light of the continuous expansions and transformations within the energy market, it is imperative for all parties involved to strengthen their collaborative efforts. Doing so will allow us to uphold the market's efficiency and security, and guarantee that market participants are presented with optimal conditions to conduct their operations.

Tomaž Paljk

My work at BSP began in early 2011 and since then I have been involved in various development projects related to BSP and the Slovenian electricity market. As a member of the operations team, I have played a crucial role in leading implementation and testing working groups. For example, I led the working group tasked with testing during the implementation of the Day-Ahead market coupling on the Slovenian-Croatian border in collaboration with the IBWT task forces.

My main focus is to improve our internal technical capabilities by developing and refining the systems that are fundamental to our operations. Additionally, I am responsible for sharing technical knowledge with external stakeholders, ensuring that our partners and clients have the necessary expertise to effectively utilize technological innovations as well as strengthen their position in the region.

I firmly believe that sharing knowledge and mutually benefiting from one another will be crucial in shaping the future of European electricity markets. Through effective collaboration, we can expedite the process of laying the necessary groundwork for future advancements, ensuring improved efficiency and success in our rapidly evolving industry.

In 2015, I joined BSP as the Head of Clearing and have since then contributed to all stages of BSP development from the clearing perspective. I am a member of the financial and budget groups in EU projects, representing BSP.
Over the years, I have managed projects to couple all Slovenian borders, with a focus on establishing financial links, creating a contractual framework, and adapting rules.

I actively participated in the development and testing of our in-house Clearing platform. This involved creating procedural documents and conducting training sessions for the team. With gained knowledge and experience, we introduced our product to stakeholders and effectively established clearing and financial settlement services to other PXs.
In 2024, BSP accomplished a significant milestone by seamlessly transferring clearing services from BSP to European Commodity Clearing. In my role as project leader, I took great satisfaction in the smooth and successful execution of this transfer.

After many successful years in which BSP has provided clearing services, I now look forward to embracing new challenges that lie ahead. I hold the firm belief that effective financial management plays a crucial role in sustaining good business relations in today's dynamic world, where the implementation of quality risk processes is crucial.

Tai Kaštrun

I joined the BSP Market Operations team in 2021. As part of my responsibilities, I participated in various working groups, with a primary focus on Single Intraday Coupling. After actively engaging in the XBID Testing Group, I was appointed team leader in October 2022.

The main task of the group is to ensure that systems meet the highest performance standards before being approved for production. We conduct thorough testing and performance evaluations to guarantee system stability, reliability, and optimal performance under real-world conditions. Our goal is to have full confidence in the stability and high performance of these systems before they are deployed for operational use. With each release, the system becomes more complex, enabling it to better meet the needs of market participants who trade on XBID.
Since the global demand for renewable energy continues to increase, there is growing interest in Intraday Continuous trading. Therefore, it is crucial for us to adapt our central systems to accommodate such needs and the unpredictable future of this market. Additionally, with the increasing dependency on trading with Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), it is vital to adjust our systems to handle increased performance and stability. This will enable us to effectively support market participants in executing their strategies with dependability and precision.

Miloš Tomić

In September 2021, I started working at BSP's Market Operations department. During my time at BSP, I had the opportunity to represent the company in various system design and testing work groups for the European Single Day-ahead Coupling project. Additionally, I participated in implementation projects for foreign markets.

Shortly thereafter, I took on the role of CORE External Parallel Run Coordinator, where I first came into contact with Simulation Facility app. I joined the Simulation Taskforce in 2022 and have been co-chairing it since August 2023. This task force oversees the Simulation Facility, an application used to simulate different market coupling scenarios crucial for the implementation of new projects.
To ensure the successful implementation of new products and the day-to-day execution of DA coupling, it is crucial to rigorously evaluate the performance of the various Market coupling elements, such as the EUPHEMIA Algorithm, market topology, including the list of bidding zones, etc. For this purpose, SDAC parties rely on the Simulation Facility app.

It should be noted that DA Market Coupling is complex, yet instrumental in shaping overall welfare and providing a stable price signal, which yields the necessity of seamless development devoid of errors. This careful approach contributes significantly to the establishment of a stable and transparent market.
